What if your breath could etch an image of your spirit onto a piece of glass...?

This thought is the inspiration for a unique technique to capture the essence of a soul taking form.  

Though this technique is often mistaken for graphite, this portrait has been painted with pale tints of ink.  Beginning with a faint drawing, I build the values with layers of monochromatic, warm, silvery tints, creating an ethereal, light-filled, breathy quality that retains the caressing mark of my hand. The slow development of the painting keeps the window open to Spirit as I watch for the moment it takes root.  Because this technique is so slow, I paint exclusively from photographs.  Although it is sometimes possible to work from your favorite photo, I am prepared to take my own photo reference to ensure the most painterly result. 

Intimate in feeling and scale, the size for a single head is usually 10" x 7.5" or 15" x 10"
